About

The California Beach Co. was founded by two childhood friends who jumped into the ecommerce world with no prior experience. They discovered their flagship product—the Pop ’N Go Playpen—at the Canton Fair in China, launched it via crowdfunding, and quickly proved product-market fit. Their mission: make parenting more convenient through innovative, well-designed products. From a scrappy WordPress site to a robust Shopify build and a 30+ person team, the brand rapidly grew into a household name in the family and lifestyle category.

Challenge

The path to $50M+ wasn't without major hurdles. Early delays in fulfilling crowdfunding orders hurt cash flow. As demand surged, the brand repeatedly sold out due to inaccurate sales forecasting and long manufacturing lead times. Limited content, weak SEO, minimal influencer presence, and a clunky tech stack created marketing friction. Later, a legal dispute during peak season resulted in the shutdown of their Facebook and Instagram profiles—crippling their ad performance and requiring legal action to recover assets. Across each growth stage, inventory constraints, platform risk, and operational inefficiencies threatened momentum.
